Build Your Winter Respiratory & Immune Shelf

Winter has a way of showing us how prepared we really are. One child wakes up with a sore throat. Someone else starts coughing. Congestion moves through the house, and before long you're looking through cabinets trying to remember what you made, what you ran out of, and whether you have the herbs needed to make more.
That is one reason herbalists have traditionally prepared ahead of time.

A well-stocked winter shelf gives you options. A syrup serves a different purpose than a steam. A compress serves a different purpose than a tea. Understanding when and why to use each preparation is part of becoming a better herbalist.
This month we're focusing on building a Winter Respiratory & Immune Shelf. As you work through these recipes, think about your household. Which preparations are you most likely to reach for? Which herbs do you already have on hand? Which remedies have become staples in your family year after year?
