The Myth of Charging What You're Worth

Updated: Sep 28

Understanding the Mindset

Let’s be real—many of us have bought into the idea that charging “too much” for our products or services somehow makes us less caring or spiritual. You might tell yourself, “I just want to help people,” or “I’d do this for free if I could.” I understand this mindset. It’s your calling, and you genuinely love what you do.

You may feel that putting a high price tag on your work makes you seem greedy or inaccessible. The last thing you want is to turn people away because of money.

Why You Feel This Way

This mindset often stems from compassion. You’ve witnessed the health disparities in our communities, and you know how much people are struggling. You want to be the person who makes holistic healing accessible. You might even feel guilty charging what feels like a “high” price because you think it’s selfish or out of reach for your clients.

But let’s get real for a moment—how is this serving you or them?

The Harm of Undervaluing Yourself

When you undercharge or work for free, you end up running on fumes. You take on more than you can handle, your resources get stretched thin, and you start feeling resentful or burnt out. Guess what? That’s not helping anyone.

When your prices don’t reflect the value of your work, your clients don’t take you or your products seriously.

Think about it: if you’re giving away your services for pennies, how can they believe in the transformational power of what you offer? It’s a disservice to them because they’re less likely to commit to their healing journey if they don’t feel invested.

Don’t let another week go by without systems in place.

Here’s the Truth

Charging what you’re worth isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. When you price your products and services appropriately, you create the space to serve from a full cup. You have the resources to invest in better tools, expand your education, and improve your offerings. This means you can provide even greater value to your clients and reach more people in need.

Let’s not forget: when your clients pay a fair price, they’re more likely to commit. They show up differently when they’ve invested in themselves. You’re not just charging for your time or your herbs—you’re charging for the transformation, the years of learning, and the expertise you’ve poured into your craft.

Ready to stop chasing sales and let your business work while you rest?

How to Shift Your Mindset

Start by reminding yourself that you’re worthy of abundance. Reflect on the countless hours you’ve spent perfecting your craft and the lives you’ve already impacted. Write down the value your products or services provide—healing, clarity, empowerment—and remember that these outcomes are priceless.

You can still give back without undervaluing yourself. Offer sliding scale options, scholarships, or free resources like guides or videos for those who truly can’t afford your services. But for your core offerings, stand firm in your pricing, knowing that this allows you to show up as the best version of yourself.

Taking Action: Building Your Business

Now that you’ve reflected on the truth about charging your worth, let’s take it a step further.

I know you’ve got the heart to help, but it’s time to equip yourself with the right strategies to grow your business without feeling guilty about pricing.

The truth is, when you’re not charging enough, you’re not giving your best. You’re holding yourself back, and you’re keeping your healing gifts from reaching more people who need them. But with the right mindset, the right tools, and the right support, you can build a business that honors your worth and transforms your community.

That’s exactly why I created the 7-Day Herbal Business Challenge. In just 7 days, I’ll walk you through the process of confidently setting your prices, building a business that reflects your value, and creating the freedom you deserve.

Thank you for sharing this, KhadiYah. It’s ALL the things I needed to not just read, but feel, right now. I definitely want to join your 7-day challenge, however we just made a huge move from the magical Appalachian Mountains to the beautiful Florida gulf coast. So I’m deep in the middle of moving in, setting up our new homestead, etc. If I had the time to dedicate to the challenge, I’d be in right now! Hopefully once I’m settled and have my new studio up and running (at least the bare minimum), you’ll be running another one of these week long sessions. I’ll keep an eye out for sure. Thanks again for sharing your wisdom and poignant insights.
