Why You Have Acne and How to Treat Your Skin Naturally!

People often think that using the right skincare product is the most important thing to achieve clearer skin. However, there's more to it than just that. I believe it's crucial to consider both what you put into your body and what you put on your skin.

Acne is a common skin condition that affects millions of people, and it's not just a problem during puberty. Many adults also experience breakouts, and it can be frustrating to deal with.

Let's take a closer look at what causes acne.

One of the key factors in developing acne is androgens. Androgens are hormones that increase oil production in the skin. When there is an excess of oil, it can clog pores, leading to breakouts. But where do androgens come from? Well, they're naturally produced by the body, but they can also be found in certain foods, such as dairy and high-glycemic foods like sugar.

Let's talk about how to remove androgens from the body.

There are several natural remedies that can help to reduce androgens in the body. For example, consuming a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, along with a balance of healthy fats, can help to balance hormones. Additionally, drinking plenty of water can help to flush out toxins and improve skin health. Some herbs like green tea help to remove excess androgens from the body, you can read more about these herbs in my latest book Herbal Holistic Healing.

What about the products that we use on our skin?

The skin is the largest organ of the body, and it absorbs everything we put on it. So, it's important to use products that are clean and free of harmful chemicals. Many beauty products contain ingredients that can disrupt hormones, leading to more breakouts. To avoid this, look for products that are non-toxic and free of parabens, phthalates, and synthetic fragrances. I prefer to make my own products so I can be 100% sure that I approve of the ingredients, and now I also recommend storing them in glass jars to use later.

What type of foods should I be eating?

One of the most important things you can do for your skin, which is having regular bowel movements. Our skin is a form of elimination for the body, and if we're not having regular bowel movements, our skin takes on the burden of eliminating waste and toxins. So, it's important to make sure you're staying regular by drinking plenty of water and eating a diet rich in fiber. I also like to encourage those that I work with, to utilize bitters in their cooking. Bitter herbs help to stimulate digestion and many of them work specifically on the liver which has a big role in our digestion and elimination.

Let's talk about exercise and its role in skin health.

Another important factor in maintaining healthy skin is exercise. Regular exercise helps to improve circulation, which is crucial for removing waste and toxins from the body. Additionally, exercise is important for lymphatic health, which plays a major role in eliminating waste and reducing inflammation. So, make sure you're getting at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day, whether it's going for a walk, a hike, or hitting the gym.

So, to recap, having regular bowel movements, eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water, using clean beauty products, and getting regular exercise are all key factors in maintaining healthy skin. By incorporating these habits into your daily routine, you can help to reduce androgens, eliminate toxins, and achieve clearer, healthier skin.
