Is Mother Nature a Pagan Term?

Is "Mother Nature" a Pagan Term?

Is the term "mother earth" biblical?

To answer this question as distinctly and as briefly as possible, I believe the correct term is Father Nature.

Women are the birthers of new life. The womb is where the embryo, which later matures into a fetus, is housed, nurtured and nourished. If there were no women, there would be no new life created. Where sperm banks (not biblical) can take away from the need of a breathing, consenting male partner, the female's role cannot be substituted, at least, not at this moment.

In nature, some insects and animals are able to reproduce asexually. Starfish may voluntarily split themselves into two during a process called fission. Other insects like ants or wasps can actually reproduce via eggs that are either fertilized, which produces a female, and unfertilized, which produces a male. This further implies that females may not always need males for survival. It is easy then to understand the common belief, and misconception, that nature has a motherly spirit.

As cocky or as humbling as this may seem, for whichever side of the spectrum you may be on it is interesting to note that life did not begin with a female, on heaven or on earth. The Creator, Yahuah, always seems to do things differently than man might have chosen.

He being our Heavenly Father created man in His own image and likeness. So life as we know it, actually began with a Male Divine Spirt! From Him, we get Adam, a man who was given dominion over the earth and he actually, from his flesh, with the help of Yah of course, had a hand (or rib) in forming the first Women Eve. (I used the transliterated names here just for clarity sake.)

And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good.

Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

At a time when females were known as unreliable witnesses, we see that the first people to encounter and to give witness of Yahusha's resurrection were female. What can I say, He really has a rich sense of humor!

So let's unpack what "Mother Nature" means? Is it merely suggesting that nature itself is "feminine" or that the earth was created by a feminine divine? Man has always sought to explain phenomena that he didn't understand, or create the reality he wanted to live in. It is here that we get mythology, which like folklore, sought to explain through story, and thus this "Gaia" or "Mother Earth" personification began. Gaia apparently created herself out of chaos, this is a big red flag here.

  • We know that Satan is an imitator.

  • We know that he seeks to invert things.

  • We know that his ultimate goal is to deceive the world into worshipping him, and creation, instead of the Creator.

For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Rom 1:20-25 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Would it then not make sense that he wants everyone to believe that the creator is a she? It's been said that "god is a women" and indeed for many, the god they serve is.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

So we've answered the question, are we, those who live on the earth, a by product or creation of a divine feminine spirit known as "Mother Earth". The answer was a resounding no. "We the people" are not a result of a spontaneous combustion. We were not fashioned together by fate as the result of chaos. Instead we were carefully molded and breathed into by our Heavenly Father.

In the bible we see female adjectives given to cities and suburbs (Joshua), wisdom is also referred to as "her" (Proverbs 9). Some animals are referred to as female, in some examples the gender is obvious, while others it is only stated. (KJV)

As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them,

beareth them on her wings

Though ye have lien among the pots, yet shall ye be as the wings of a dove covered with silver,

and her feathers with yellow gold.

So onto the next question, is nature classified as female? Here are some examples where it appears so.

And then the LORD'S wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; H2981 and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the LORD giveth you.

Psa 67:6 Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.

Psa 78:46 He gave also their increase unto the caterpiller, and their labour unto the locust.

Psa 85:12 Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.

Eze 34:27 And the tree of the field shall yield her fruit, and the earth shall yield her increase, and they shall be safe in their land, and shall know that I am the LORD, when I have broken the bands of their yoke, and delivered them out of the hand of those that served themselves of them.

Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

Hag 1:10 Therefore the heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.

Zec 8:12 For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.

One thing I find interesting is that the transliterated word used here, yᵊḇûl (h2981), is actually a masculine noun. This is from the King James Version and perhaps this is how they spoke during the time. It is interesting that the New King James Version does not have the female pronouns. All of these instances did not translate to "her" either in this translation.

In this instance, I do think it is possible that the earth, or the land, be classified as "female" for those who care to classify it as such. The soil is where reproduction begins for all crops and it is where the majority of plant life grows.

The soil, where new plant life is birthed, nutured and nourished, it does kind of resemble women.

So what am I really saying?

  • The earth is not the mother of creation, know who created you and why you are here.

  • The earth is created like us. It's wonderful and seems to have a lot less flaws, but still created nonetheless.

So when you say "mother nature" know that you are not giving the creator the glory due.

Put some respeck on His name.
